St. Mary’s Catholic Youth Fellowship received a mini-grant from Mirror’s Youth as Resources (YAR) to create and distribute “Just for you” gift backpacks for children that enter the Harvey County Homeless Shelter. They designed, purchased and put together backpacks that were filled with age appropriate games and activities for children 3 – 13 years old. A total of 15 backpacks were donated. The youth also purchased 2 movies to leave at the shelter and have planned a movie night with popcorn for the youngster that live there.

Catholic Youth Fellowship leader Carrie Weber said “The project was a great learning experience for everyone involved. We used brainstorming techniques to complete the grant application together. Attention to detail, organization and budgeting was a must in the planning process.”

While delivering the packages the youth group came together with smiles as they presented two children at the Homeless shelter with the special gifts. Weber applauded the youth group for their effort and teamwork.
