The Halstead Clover Leaf 4H club presented a grant request at our May Harvey County YAR Board meeting. The requested project was beautification of main street in Halstead and, if possible, they wanted it done in time for Memorial Day weekend. Their desire was “to make Main Street more welcoming to visitors and to increase community pride”.

Kirby Martin, owner of Stone Creek, worked with youth teaching them how to plant and arrange flowers in large pots. Kirby commented, “It was a lot of fun working with the kids.”

Stone Creek generously matched the funds and youth ended up with a very nice beautification contribution to their community — four large pots of flowers adorning the center of the city.

4-H youth took ownership of the project, creating a watering schedule that will employ all 16 members to care for the flowers and keep them thriving through the Kansas summer.
